This is the final reminder about registration for the 2008-09 Wisconsin Elite Hockey League tryouts.Registration will close this weekend with tryouts scheduled to be conducted the following weekend. Check http://www.wi-ehl.net for times and locations of your local tryouts. Again you must register with USA Hockey for the 2008-09 and use this new number in the appropriate field before your registration will be accepted. Early numbers indicate that we will again form the Select division at the U16 level. More information will be upcoming.
July 3, 2008 Wisconsin hockey families,
The 2008-09 WEHL tryout registration will close for the Bantams July 11th and July 25th for both the U16's and U18's. Anyone interested in playing in the WEHL for the 2008-09 season must fill out the age appropriate registration forms prior to those dates to be eligible for competition this season. Tryouts begin July 19th for the Bantams and August 1st for the Midgets. Check your region for specific times and locations.
U14 & U16 are DIFFERENT SEASONS and have nothing to do with each other. If a skater is a 1994 birth year and will be a freshmen in High School this year you are eligible to try out for U14, U16 or both teams. A skater can tryout for U14 and if they make the team they practice and play games from July 19th until Sept 7th with the U14 team. U14 season done is over Sept 7th.
The U16 team has tryouts on Aug 2nd with practice starting right away and the first game on Sept 6th. A skater who is a 1994 and an incoming freshmen has the choice to tryout for the U16 team on August 2nd. If that skater makes the U16 team then they have no restrictions on practices or games unless they
are on the U14 team. The restrictions will be minor as the only real conflict is Sept 6th & 7th for games and the skater would need to play in all U14 games that weekend. Example: 1. Skater makes U14 team, pays $25 for tryout and $300 for team fee. Practice and play games July 19th-Sept 7th.
2. Skater makes U16 team, pays $50 for tryout and $550 for team fee. Practice and play games Aug 2nd-Late October. Reassemble in March if team qualifies for State and play in the State Tournament.
3. Skater makes U14 team at July 19th tryouts, pays $25 for tryout and $300 for team fee. Skater practices with U14 team and on Aug 2nd skater tries out for U16 team. Skater pays
$25 (discounted from $50 for U14 players) to tryout for the U16 team. If the skater makes the U16 team they pay $550 to play U16. Skater continues to practice with all U14 sessions and plays all U14 games until end of season Tournament Sept 7th. Skater also practices when available at U16 practice and joins U16 game schedule after U14 Tournament Sept 6th-7th. U16 Skater playing both U14 & U16 might miss 2 games at the U16 level that weekend. Skater then commits full time to the U16 team for practice and games Sept 8th-Late October and during any after season in March. The only real overlap is the Sept 6th-7th weekend so the two seasons have nothing to do with each other. The U14 players that are 1995 birth years
or incoming 8th graders with 1994 birth years are not eligible to play U16.
USA Hockey registration - There seems to be some confusion about the USA Hockey registration number. We are required to do the new registration because our league straddles both years however this registration will take care of any spring programs you participate in next year. In order to register for tryouts you must complete the 2008-09 USA Hockey registration.
